The country was in shock as details continued to emerge Friday morning of the mass shooting in Colorado that killed 12 people and injured 58.
A gunman opened fire at a suburban Denver movie theater at around 12:30 a.m. MDT on the opening night of “The Dark Knight Rises”.
Thousands flocked to numerous valley movie theaters that same evening for the midnight showings of the latest Batman movie.
Once new information began streaming in about the shooting, over 100 viewers began responding to the Action 4 News Facebook page and Twitter feed.
As the day progressed, over 500 comments came into valleycentral.com and the Action 4 social media pages.
Erikah Wilson, Sofee Lopez Ochoa, along with many others passed on their condolences to the families who lost loved ones that night.
Melinda Betancourt said, “My condolences, heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to all the families of the victims. God Bless!”
Merari Montanez wrote, “Very sad. May God give all the families strength. They will be in my prayers.”
Many people commented back and forth to communicate and share their thoughts on what happened.
Felix Pena told us on Facebook, “With all of the crazy anticipation leading up to this movie, I thought something like this could happen.”
Gloria Lopez also said, “It’s truly sad when people don’t take the time to make a person smile…one smile makes a lot of difference.”
Movie theaters took extra security precautions throughout the day, and valley residents even suggested ways to make the theater a safer place.
Martie Pena suggested that cameras should be placed at all entrances and exits. She also believes that the theater parking lots should be patrolled more often.
Action 4 News posted a poll to see who was planning to go see “The Dark Knight Rises”. Fourty-seven percent of you said "Yes", 40 percent said "No", and 13 percent said "Not sure."
Miguel Mascorro Sr. wrote on valleycentral.com that he had tickets for the show, but out of respect for the victims, he made plans to cancel until later.
