Former Hidalgo County Pct. 1 Commissioner Sylvia Handy is back in the courtroom to argue in favor of dismissing criminal charges against her.

Handy and her attorneys appeared before Judge Roberto "Bobby" Flores in the 139th State District Court for a hearing on Monday morning.

The attorneys want some charges in the "Phantom Employee" indictment dismissed but did not disclose the reasons.

A hearing for the motion to dismiss the charges is taking place.

Handy is in the middle of serving a two and half year sentence for federal charges related to the Phantom Employee scandal.

Monday's court hearing ended without a decision but Judge Flores set the pretrial hearing for Thursday, August 2nd.
