A Cameron County employee is among those arrested in a scheme to sell fake license plates or E-tags.

The Brownsville Police Department’s Auto Theft Task Force made the arrests on Monday afternoon.

It all happened at the Sanchez Tire Shop on off Military Highway around noon on Monday.

An Action 4 News viewer sent in pictures of the arrests as they were happening.

Police arrested tire shop owner Ramiro Sanchez on a state jail felony for using fake tags on cars for sale on his property.

Sanchez reportedly implicated Victor Salinas as the person who gave him the plates.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Salinas works at the Cameron County Tax Office.

But detectives believe he had access to the e-tags through his side business where he has a licnese to sell cars.
