A Brownsville man is behind bars months after he lead authorities on a drug chase near the Amigoland Mall and swam to Mexico.

Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 40-year-old David Pardo on Tuesday.

Court records show that Pardo is the suspect in a November 1st, 2011 chase that ended near Brownsville’s B&M International Bridge.

Authorities found 66 pounds of marijuana inside his SUV and watched as Pardo fled into Mexico.

The records show that Pardo had been under surveillance by deputies investigating a drug tip but sped off after being pulled over for a traffic violation near Boca Chica and Palm Boulevards.

Details about how Pardo was arrested were not immediately available but he’s been charged with possession of marijuana and evading arrest in a motor vehicle.

Pardo remains in custody under $45,000 dollars in bonds and an immigration detainer.
