Fireworks vendors across the Rio Grande Valley spent most of Wednesday morning preparing for a large increase in sales for Independence Day celebrations.

Several vendors told Action 4 News they have seen more customers spending more money this year.

Justin Wilson with Omega Fireworks said customers have slowly trickled in day, but he expected sales to skyrocket at night.

"Probably around 10 p.m.,” he said. “A lot of people are still working and once they get off their shifts they want to try and get everything before it’s too late."

Contrary to national expectations, he said Valley families are spending more on fireworks this year.

"We've actually been having a lot more business because last year we did have a drought," Wilson explained.

At Alamo Fireworks in Harlingen, customers filed in and headed straight to the big boxes.

"They're spending more a lot more,” employee Hannah Caballero said. “The biggest we've had so far is around 1500 bucks for one family."

"The big cakes that's the biggest,” she explained on which fireworks are the most popular. “That includes the biggest shots you have, the big light show. It’s going great with selling them."

With their shelves fully stocked, vendors wait for customers to pop on by and empty them out.
