A 63-year-old Santa Rosa man is behind bars after his own grandchildren said he sexually abused them.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said the alleged crime came to light when the wife of the accused, Jesus Alejo, walked in on her husband engaging in "inappropriate behavior" with their grand child.

When the grandmother questioned the three children at the home the 9 and 11-year-old boys and the 10-year-old girl all confessed that their grandfather had sexually abused them over the past month.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Alejo Saturday on allegations of sexual assault.

His bond was set at $300,000.

Lucio praised the grandmother for notifying authorities.

"I want to tell the lady she did a fantastic job because she needs to protect the children and she did just that,” Lucio said.  “The public needs to be aware that's what they need to do whenever they see anything like that.  This will traumatize children for the rest of their lives.”

Alejo has no record of prior sexual abuse allegations.
