Two people are killed in a collision in Donna tonight.

According to DPS, the driver of a Chevy Monte Carlo was passing another car heading south on Val Verde road at a high rate of speed.

When the car attempted to get back into the proper lane, the driver lost control and the Monte Carlo ended up sideways between both lanes.

That’s when a Ford Explorer heading northbound with a family of 4 inside struck the car on the passenger side killing the male and female inside the Monte Carlo.

DPS say the driver of the car that caused the accident is identified as 22 year old Cesar Alejandro Bocanegra.

The female has not been identified at this hour.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was airlifted to McAllen Medical Center while his wife and their 5 and 2 year old children were taken to other hospitals for treatment.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

DPS say Bocanegra was passing in a no passing zone.

The investigation is ongoing.
