Authorities are investigating a burglary that ended with one of the three suspects being shot by the homeowner.

It all happened on the 700 block of West Bronze Drive in Pharr around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Pharr Police Chief Ruben Villescas spoke to Action 4 News about the incident.

Chief Villescas said three burglary suspects broke into an apartment home.

The apartment renter shot one of the three suspects in the head or shoulder area.

Paramedics rushed the injured burglary suspect to a local hospital for treatment.

Chief Villescas said the homeowner held the second suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.

The third suspect got away in a green SUV prompting authorities to issue an alert for that SUV and the suspect.

Chief Villescas said there were no signs of illegal activity at the home and that it appeared that neither the suspects nor the homeowner knew each other.

The homeowner is not expected to face charges at this time.

Under a Texas state law known as the "Castle Law," homeowners have the right to shoot intruders in their homes.
