BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (AP) -- Jury deliberations in the bribery trial of a South Texas attorney have resumed in Brownsville after two weeks of testimony in a broad federal probe of corruption in the county's justice system.
Port Isabel attorney Ray Marchan is the first of a dozen people swept up in the federal investigation to go to trial.
The 55-year-old lawyer is charged with seven counts including racketeering and conspiracy for allegedly paying a judge more than $11,000 in bribes and kickbacks for appointments and favorable rulings in 2008.
The jury resumed deliberations Monday morning after breaking for the weekend late Friday night.
Former state District Judge Abel Limas, who Marchan allegedly paid, was the prosecution's star witness. He pleaded guilty to racketeering last year and awaits sentencing.
