Esmeralda Alegria's family lives in a small home on the outskirts of San Benito.
But inside the home is dark, it has no running water, and even parts of the floors were caving in.
She says this is where she raised her children, but started crying when she said her son, Daniel, has not been back home in almost two months.
"I'm kind of uncomfortable. I want to go back home,” said Daniel as he laid in his hospital bed.
Daniel, who is 18-years-old, is at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
He was paralyzed from the waist down after a tragic car accident the night of his graduation from San Benito High School.
Under normal circumstances, Daniel would be allowed to return home to continue with his rehab and recovery.
However, Alegria says their health care providers said that her son cannot live in these type of conditions.
"I have to hurry up because my son is getting out of the hospital on June 21. But for now, I don’t know what to do. If I don’t have all the services in this house, he's going to have to stay with another family,” said Alegria.
And probably a family that Daniel doesn't even know.
Alegria says that she has some family members here in the valley, but none of them have homes that would properly meet the needs of her disabled son.
Daniel says all he wants is for the community to lend his family a helping hand.
“It would make me feel better. Our house needs light and water. That would make me feel better so I could go home. I just want to go home,” said Daniel.
"I really need the help. If anyone can help me out,” said Alegria.
Alegria told Action 4 News that any help from the community would be greatly appreciated.
