A Brownsville teenager is behind bars after he allegedly hit his underage and pregnant girlfriend during a domestic violence incidnent.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 18-year-old Gilberto Fernandez, Jr. on early Tuesday morning.

Deputies were called to a home off Salida de Luna Street where a 14-year-old girl was found with facial injuries and holding her stomach.

Investigators reported that Fernandez admitted to grabbing her by the arm and later punching her in the face.

Paramedics took the girl to the hospital for evaluation after deputies learned that the girl was pregnant with Fernandez's child.

Fernandez allegedly told deputies that he was "sorry" and had "messed up" and that he was concerned about the baby.

Deputies charged Fernandez with injury to a child and sexual assault of a child.

The Brownsville teen appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein on Tuesday where he was issued $135,000 dollars in bonds.

Fernandez remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail.
