Authorities are investigating a man's death after finding his body along the shores of the Rio Grande River in Roma.

It all happened in an area of the river just a few hundred yards north of the Roma-Miguel Aleman International Bridge.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Border Patrol agents first spotted the body around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities were able to retrieve the body from the water a couple hours later.

Investigators said the body was that of a man in his 20s but did not have identification.

Roma police are investigating but reported that the man's body did not appear to have any signs of trauma or violence.

Autopsy results are pending but police believe the man may have been an illegal immigrant who drowned while crossing the river.

Investigators have contacted the Mexican Consulate in McAllen for assistance.
