A San Benito police officer faced charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at Cameron County deputies.

The Cameron County Sheriff’s Department was responding to a domestic violence call near San Benito on Sunday night.

When deputies arrived, San Benito Police Officer Candido Ortiz Jr., who lived at the residence, allegedly pulled a gun on the deputies.

A press conference was held at 2 p.m. on Monday to discuss his employment status and punishment.

He was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and suspended with pay.
