Authorities have launched a drug investigation after marijuana plants were found growing across from day care in Mercedes.

It all happened at a rental home on the 100 block of North Virginia Street in Mercedes on Friday morning.

Mercedes police were at the home arresting a woman for an outstanding warrant when they noticed the plants growing in outdoor pots.

Investigators took the renters into custody for questioning while police wait for an search warrant to enter the home.

Neighbors said the renters moved in back in February but kept a steady flow of traffic in another otherwise quiet neighborhood.

One neighbor said she them hauling in fertilizer and dirt on Tuesday night.

Names of those taken into custody are not being released at this time.

Action 4 News will provide more details as they becomes available.
