Driver fatigue is being blamed in an accident where a 20-year-old man crashed his SUV into the steps of the building.

It all happened on the 400 block of North Sam Houston Boulevard around 8 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the 20-year-old man lost control of his SUV and drove up the steps of City Hall.

San Benito police said the man worked an overnight shift and did not get enough sleep.

The young man was coming from a friend's house and allegedly feel asleep behind the wheel.

Police said the man over corrected his SUV after hitting a palm tree/

His SUV ran over a historical marker sign before coming to rest halfway up the steps of City Hall.

The man did not appear to be injured and refused medical treatment at the scene.

It's not clear if the man had auto insurance but police issued the man a traffic ticket for the accident.
