Jagged metal and broken glass covered the black Chevy Alanche, the remains of a fatal rollover accident west of Mission on Saturday morning.

Deputies responded to the crash at about 6:50 a.m. on Western Avenue and Mile 5 Line.

The crash caught Pedro Venecia off guard.

I was barely going to brush my teeth,” he said. “I heard a crash and I looked out the window. I saw a cloud of dust and the truck was standing straight up.

The truck ended up in Venecia’s front yard.

The driver, Sergio Valdez, 38, lost control as he traveled southbound and rolled over.

I thought my light bulbs had just blown up and I was just scared,” Venecia explained. “When I saw the truck I went ‘aww’ and I just got real scared.

He walked out of his home to find the Avalanche on its side.

It rolled from the street, cutting through a chain link fence and into his yard.

DPS Investigators said Valdez was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected and killed on the spot.

I don’t know what to tell [the family]” Venecia concluded. “I'm really sorry. It looked really bad.

Valdez leaves behind four young kids, ages 11, seven, four and three.

His wife is also six months pregnant.

They are asking for the community’s support to help them through their time of loss.

They have opened up a memorial account at Wells Fargo Bank to help cover funeral expenses.

Anyone interested in helping out can stop by any branch in the Valley.

The account is under his wife’s name, Laura Elizabeth Valdez.
