Brandy Maley said she was stunned when she got the call about the arrest of her coach Andrew Gonzales.

But she said she is confident the allegations against him will be proven false.

Harlingen Police arrested Gonzales Sunday evening at the Elite Cheer Force academy on T Street on one charge for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

"I ask all the parents out there and to the general public to please give Andrew a fair shot at proving his innocence," she added.

Maley said the accusations stem from alleged text messages and not physical contact.

She said Gonzales has already turned over his phone to attorneys for an investigation.

The cheer academy owner is confident that will prove he is innocent.

Maley said the arrest came as her group was practicing for an upcoming competition, but added no children witnessed the arrest.

As far as the motive for the quote false allegations, she said she believes competitors are trying to shut down her business.

"The truth will be revealed real soon," she said. “There’s a lot more to this than what we’re seeing and we’re going to get down to the bottom of it. This is an injustice to Andrew and we’re going to make sure they pay for it.”

Parents with children enrolled at  Elite Cheer Force spoke out in favor of Gonzales.

But they expressed concern about how the situation will impact their students.

"Our girls have to go to school tomorrow and everybody is going to bombard them with questions," a parent who did not want to be identified said.

She told Action 4 News Gonzales is a caring and dedicated coach and say they trust him with their children.

Maley said she will meet with parents to talk about how to address the situation with their cheer students.

She added that she cannot yet disclose who is behind the allegations against Gonzales.

The coach will remain at the Harlingen City Jail until his arraignment on Monday morning.
