(AP) -- McAllen, Texas (AP) -- Prosecutors said two men have been sentenced for their roles in a South Texas drug ring that smuggled marijuana from Mexico to Houston.
Lauro Arturo TreviIno Senior and Roberto Coronado were sentenced by a federal judge during a court hearing Friday in McAllen.
Both men had previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Sixty-year-old TreviIno, of Roma, was sentenced to more than five years in prison while 33-year-old Coronado, of Edinburg, was given a prison term of more than four years.
The two were part of a group of more than 20 who were indicted in November, accused of being part of a drug smuggling operation based in Starr County.
Authorities say during their investigation they seized five tons of marijuana and $120,000 in drug proceeds.
