A Brownsville man remains on the run accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend outside her home.
21-year-old Yazmin Reyes's father is speaking in public pleading for help tracking down the man who nearly killed his daughter.
"She was shot six times out of the seven or eight tries that the guy made.” said Yazmin’s father.
Adrian Reyes stood by the red markings on the driveway at his home on Keith street in Brownsville where, just Friday, his daughter Yazmin Reyes was shot by her ex-boyfriend, and now fugitive 25-year-old Victor Manuel Hernandez.
"He almost killed my daughter,” said Reyes. “Thank God she's still alive and recovering pretty good, very well."
Reyes said he and his family have not been staying at the home because they are traumatized following the shooting.
They were there when the shooting occurred, but didn't see the tragic events unfold until viewing their home surveillance which caught every horrifying moment.
"She comes out of the car,” said Reyes. “She came out of work and she parked right there. She walked and she sees that guy and she tried to get home, he called her name twice, until she looks around to see the guy. He's with the gun, he starts shooting poom, two shoots in the belly. So my daughter tries to run away from him and he kept shooting."
The emotional father summoned the strength to return to the home to plea for the public's help in bringing Hernandez to justice, including those in Mexico where Hernandez is suspected to be hiding out.
"This guy is alone he doesn’t work for anybody,” said Reyes. “Don’t be afraid to report this guy."
Reyes said his daughter is expected to be out of the hospital, but with some permanent damage.
"She lost a kidney, her arm is all damaged,” said Reyes. “She's going to need therapy for that and hopefully she's going to recover 100%."
Authorities said Victor Manuel Hernandez is a criminal justice graduate from UTB and he was working as a tutor there.
They say he had no criminal history and is believed to be in hiding out in Matamoros.
Police ask anyone with information on Hernandez's whereabouts to contact Brownsville Crime Stoppers at 546-TIPS.
