Authorities are searching a wooded area near Brownsville's Veterans International Bridge after two illegal immigrants fled from Border Patrol agents.

It all happened shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday in an area just northwest of the bridge.

Investigators told Action 4 News that two suspected illegal immigrants fled from Border Patrol agents.

The two immigrants jumped into a resaca, known as an oxbow lake in English, to flee the agents.

One of the immigrants was seen struggling while trying to swim but has not been located.

Border Patrol Spokeswoman Rosie Huey said they believe the immigrants are hiding in a drainage or sewage pipe.

A Brownsville Fire Department boat has been sent to the scene to aid in the search for the immigrants.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
