Wesley Walsman moved to the Rio Grande Valley a year ago.

"I actually came to the valley without work,” Walsman said. “I got here in July and applied to several jobs."

For three month Walsman said he searched for a job but always seemed to come up short.

That is—until her heard about Action 4’s Career Fair.

"I found out about the event on Sunday and on Monday went to the Workforce Solutions website and signed up early."

Walsman said he printed out his resumes, applied for a fast pass online, and headed to the career fair.

"It was overwhelming,” Walsman admitted. “I didn't have a chance to go to every single table. By looking at the paper and looking for the companies I wanted to work with, I was able to go in and out and not be there for three or four hours."

Two weeks after the career fair Wesley got the call he had been waiting for.

"I got a job interview with ARCH,” He said. “The amazing thing was the director told me she got over 150 interviews at the job fair. Of that, she interviewed 20—I had my first interview two weeks after the fair and a second interview three weeks later.”

It was at that second interview that Walsman received the good news.

He got the job.

He is now the Outreach and Engagement Coordinator for the Advocacy and Resource Center for Housing in Hidalgo County.

"I wouldn't have gotten the job or be working today if it wasn't for the job fair."
