Authorities are investigating how a grenade ended up on a piece of land behind a popular fast food restaurant.

Rio Grande City police were called out to Diaz Street late Tuesday morning.

A property owner told police that he found the grenade on his land.

Members of the McAllen Police Department bomb squad were called to the scene.

Police don't believe the grenade is real but are not taking any chances.

The property is located behind a popular Whataburger restaurant off Expressway 83.

It's also blocks away from the Rio Grande City-Camargo International Bridge.

The incident did not affect traffic at the bridge.
