MCALLEN, TEXAS (AP) -- A man from Mexico has been sentenced to nearly eight years in prison for running two South Texas stash houses for illegal immigrants.

Prosecutors in McAllen on Wednesday announced the penalty for 33-year-old Jose Santos Gomez-Vega of Altamirano, Guerrero, Mexico. The case involved homes near Alton and La Blanca.

Gomez-Vega was arrested in October 2010. He pleaded guilty to harboring illegal immigrants and to re-entering the U.S. after being deported.

A federal judge in McAllen on Tuesday sentenced Gomez-Vega to 92 months in prison.

He sent to prison in 2008 for conspiracy to transport an unlawful immigrant.

Gomez-Vega was on supervised release when the stash houses were discovered, so he must serve five months in that case, running concurrently with the new prison sentence.
