The unemployed in the Rio Grande Valley will be getting back to work.

Action 4 News hosted a successful phone bank in advance of a huge job fair coming to the valley.

The newsroom transformed into a job call center Wednesday evening as Workforce Solutions representatives answered calls from viewers inquiring about the Action 4 job fair taking place in Harlingen on May 3.

Pat Hobbs, Executive Director of Workforce Solutions Cameron, said although there's been a slight dip in unemployment numbers locally, there are still thousands of people in need of work.

"We want them to have a better quality of life and get a job." said Hobbs."With a workforce of 160,000 just in Cameron County, we've got 10 points, 7% of them without a job."

Several of them phoned in to the call center asking about resumes, what to wear and what skills they need to have to get into the workforce.

"It's a matter of targeting the appropriate employer, and making sure your resume reflects your work skills,” said Hobbs. “Also visiting one of our workforce centers."

And those who didn't call in, they turned to social media to ask their questions in anticipation for the job fair.

Workforce solutions said they can get you ready for the big day, but they need a job seeker who is motivated to get into the workforce and stay there.

"Don't give up,” said Hobbs. “There is a job out there."

The job fair is May 3rd at the Harlingen Community Center on Madison Street from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
