Deputies make arrests for La Blanca cockfighting ring

Authorities have made arrests for cockfighting operation in La Blanca while supects in deadly shooting that took place there remain at large.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies were called out to a ranch off Jesus Flores Road just south of Mile 20 North early Thursday morning.

Three people were killed and eight people were injured when masked gunmen arrived and opened fire on a group watching a cockfight.

The suspects in the deadly shooting remain at large but Sheriff Lupe Treviño told Action 4 News that deputies have arrested those responsible for running the cockfighting ring.

Treviño said that the suspects are expected to be arraigned at the Hidalgo County Jail at 2 p.m. Friday.

Under Texas state law, cockfighting is state jail felony punishable from six months to two years in jail and/or a $10,000 fine.

Action 4 News will be at the arraignment and provide more information as it becomes available.
