Truck on fire slows traffic in east Edinburg neighborhood

Authorities are investigating why a truck caught on fire while driving in Edinburg.

Firefighters responded to a truck on fire off Raul Longoria and Sprague Roads on Thursday morning.

Acting Fire Chief Ubaldo Perez said the driver of a rural mail truck was driving northbound on Raul Longoria when he saw smoke coming out of the car.

He pulled over and as soon as he got out of the truck, it erupted in flamea, acording to Perez.

A police officer passing by also noticed the smoke and called it in.

The fire department arrived in minutes and put out the fire.

The driver was not injured.

Fire crews restricted the northbound lanes of Raul Longoria and are diverting traffic.
