Authorities are working to identify 14 men after their mutilated bodies were left in garbage bags stuffed in an abandoned mini-van in Nuevo Laredo.

It all happened on Calle Maclovio Herrera between Avenidas Guerrero and Juarez in the downtown area of the city around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) released a statement about the gruesome discovery on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators reported that authorities received a report about an abandoned 1996 Chrysler Voyager mini-van with bodies inside.

Tamaulipas State Police took a closer look and found 10 garbage bags with the mutilated bodies of 14 men stuffed inside

The men have not been identified but PGJE officials reported that they appear to be 30 to 35 years old.

A drug cartel message was left with the bodies but investigators are not disclosing what it said.

Authorities have ordered an autopsy to learn more about the identities of the men and how they died.
