Authorities are investigating how a machine on the roof of Treasure Hills Elementary School caught fire.

It all happened towards the rear of the Haine Drive school shortly after 7 a.m. Friday.

Harlingen firefighters reported that a machine used to melt tar for roofing work caught fire.

Investigators said the fire was out in less than 20 minutes and that it never spread to the roof or the building.

It’s not clear what caused the fire but firefighters said there appeared to be no roof workers present at the time.
