The suspected driver of the minivan crash near La Joya that claimed the life of a suspected illegal immigrant has been arrested.

DPS troopers confirm the man who fled the scene was arrested in the Peñitas area.

Jose Carlos Sanchez of Mexico has been charged with 19 counts of failure to stop and render aid and criminal negligent homicide for the death of a male passenger.

Sanchez remains in custody at the Hidalgo County Jail where he was arraigned on Tuesday.
