Progreso police caught an accused child rapist who has been wanted for over a year.

Police said Hector Flores repeatedly raped a child around elementary school age.

They've been trying to find him for over a year and but changes to his weight and facial hair made him difficult to track down.

Police said he's not a US citizen and that added to their struggle.

A judge gave Flores a $250,000 bond for one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

His family was at his arraignment today and said they had no idea Flores was a wanted man.

His current girlfriend said she has children and that flores would never hurt them.

Victims of sexual assault will be honored with an awareness walk on Thursday.

The walk will be at the Learning Resource Center at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen from 12 to 1 p.m.

Students, faculty and others will walk through campus to raise awareness about the issue.
