It was lights out for more than 20,000 AEP customers in Hidalgo County as a result of punishing storms Thursday night.

Severe weather caused widespread problems for businesses, homeowners and motorists.

Many drivers were stuck in flood waters that quickly rose as a result of non-stop rain.

More than 4 inches of rain fell at McAllen-Miller International Airport over the last 48 hours.

Most of the rain was recorded during Thursday’s severe weather.

Hail, ranging from nickel to baseball sized, turned lawns into winter wonderlands.

City workers in McAllen were urged to report to work after midnight to help clear any road hazards.
