(AP) -- HOUSTON (AP) -- Nearly 50 suspected illegal immigrants from Latin America have been detained after Houston police acted on a tip and raided a home.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Greg Palmore said police arrived at the home in southwest Houston about 8:45 a.m. Friday and spotted some people running away.

They contacted Homeland Security officials, who arrived soon afterward.

Forty-nine people were taken into custody including 38 adult men and 11children.

Palmore says the people came north from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.

Authorities haven't determined if any suspected smugglers connected to the home have been detained.

Authorities are still working to confirm the immigration statuses of those detained.
