A man believed to be stealing gasoline sets himself on fire and dies.

The incident happened early Friday morning just after midnight on 14 Mile Line and Jarachina Road.

Sheriff deputies told Action 4 News the pilot of a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter patrolling that area spotted flames, and reported gas tanks were on fire.

But, when investigators arrived they found what appeared to be a body inside a truck fully engulfed in flames.

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s deputies, La Joya Fire Department and DPS all responded.

Preliminary investigations show the driver of the truck was reportedly trying to take gasoline from the tanks located in a wooded area.

An investigation has been launched.
