A Raymondville man is behind bars after being arrested for child endangerment on South Padre Island.

South Padre Island police arrested 34-year-old Juan Manuel Cruz over the weekend.

According to a report, an officer found him intoxicated off the 100 block of East Palm Street around 4:15 a.m. Saturday.

Details about the child were not released but the report shows that Cruz is accused of using or consuming illegal drugs at the scene of the crime.

The charges show that Cruz is accused of acting with criminal negligence to endanger the child.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Cruz remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under a $10,000 dollar bond.

Court records show that Cruz has a lengthy criminal history going back to 1995 on charges including assault family violence, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, escape, marijuana and auto theft.
