According to the McAllen Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), Hidalgo County has seen a growth of 8,600 jobs since January 2011.
Mcallen, Edinburg and Mission saw the largest increase of jobs in education and health services with 3,000 new jobs added.
Over the past year, there has been 1,500 jobs added in business services, 1,400 jobs added in trade and transportation services and 1,200 jobs added in hospitality.
The only industry of employment that has seen a decrease is manufacturing with a loss of 400 jobs over the year.
After having an unemployment rate of 12.9% in January 2011, Hidalgo County has lowered their percentage rate to 11.7%.
McAllen has the lowest unemployment rate of 7.7% and San Juan has the highest at 12.3%
According to Texas Workforce Commission, the state added a total of 258,000 jobs over the year.
“When the majority of industries in Texas add jobs over the year, that’s a positive sign,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Ronny Congleton. “Texas continues to have diverse job opportunities for a diverse workforce, and TWC is committed to helping Texans seize those opportunities.
