Mark Daniel Garza gets 10 years in prison for his role in the case
A second suspect has pleaded guilty to his role in the murder-for-hire plot that ended with the death of a Rio Hondo teacher.
Mark Daniel Garza appeared before Judge Rolando Olvera in the 445th State District Court on Thursday morning.
Garza pleaded guilty to tampering with physical evidence and received a 10-year prison sentence.
The Cameron County man is one of six people accused in participating in a murder-for-hire plot that ended with the April 2011 death of teacher Sonia Perez.
Garza declined the initial murder job offer from Sonia Perez's preacher husband Julio Cesar Perez but referred him to triggerman Daniel Flores Lopez.
Court records show that Garza gave Lopez the gun that was used to kill Sonia Perez.
Lopez later pleaded guilty to being the triggerman in the case and got sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Garza is the second person plead guilty in the case and be sentenced.
