“It was just chaos…it was crazy!” ‘Stacy’ exclaimed.
She said the events unfolded in front of her eyes. She said she watched as Hidalgo County Sheriff deputies swarmed through her neighborhood with guns drawn and in hot pursuit of two armed suspects allegedly involved in a home invasion.
"We got scared." ‘Stacy’ recounted.
"There was a lot of shooting going on over there. I heard everything....like seven or eight shots."
That exchange of gunfire was first from the alleged suspects and then finally from Hidalgo County Sheriff Deputies.
“He made a motion as if he was going to shoot our deputy and we discharged more than one time and hit the alleged home invader," Sheriff Lupe Trevino explained.
When the smoke cleared no deputies were injured, but one of the suspects was shot and he later died at the hospital.
Stacy told Action 4 News that shootings are a common occurrence in her neighborhood. Just last week, she said, there was a shooting just a few streets down from where she lives.
"It happened going toward mile 5...but there has been shootings here too," Stacy said.
