Elderly bicyclist killed in Mercedes hit-and-run accident

Members of the Action 4 News team worked together to bring you this report.

Authorities are trying to learn the identity of a motorist who struck and killed an elderly bicyclist just outside Mercedes city limits.

It all happened off Business 83 and Mile 3 East around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers said 69-year-old Robert Hernandez was riding his bike along Business 83.

An unknown vehicle hit and killed Hernandez and then fled the scene.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
