A Brownsville teenager is facing criminal charges after authorities found more than 16 pounds of cocaine inside his car.

Harlingen police arrested 17-year-old Ricardo Moreno, Jr. at the Gateway International Bridge on Monday.

The Brownsville teen drove up from Matamoros in a white 2002 Chevrolet Impala.

A K-9 officer with the Harlingen Police Department was on duty at the bridge where authorities detected something suspicious.

Investigators found six package with 16.35 pounds of cocaine hidden inside Moreno’s car.

The Brownsville teen could not be prosecuted in federal court due to his age but was turned over to Harlingen police for prosecution on state charges.

Harlingen police charged Moreno with possession of a controlled substance.

The teen appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Tuesday morning where he was issued a $200,000 dollar bond.
