Pedro Rodriguez gets $500,000 bond, immigration detainer

A man accused in the fatal shooting of a La Paloma business owner is expected to face a judge on Thursday morning.

Murder suspect Pedro Rodriguez surrendered to Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies at the San Benito WalMart on Wednesday night.

Rodriguez is accused in the murder of business owner Jose Guadalupe Garza off FM 732 in the rural community of La Paloma.

Sheriff Omar Lucio told Action 4 News that Rodriguez shot Garza several times following an argument about Rodriguez stealing tires from Garza.

Authorities swarmed the La Paloma area late Wednesday afternoon searching for Rodriguez.

Deputies found his truck and later learned he was at the San Benito WalMart where he surrendered.

Rodriguez appeared before a judge at the Cameron County Jail on Thursday afternoon where he was issued a $500,000 dollar bond.

Jail records show that U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have filed an immigration detainer against Rodriguez.
