Authorities have confirmed that a gunman was killed during a Monday afternooon shootout in northwest Reynosa.

Action 4 News reported about a gun battle in the Colonia Rancho Grande on Monday.

Details were not immediately available but Mexico's Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) confirmed the incident.

In a written statement released on Tuesday evening, SEDENA officials said gunmen clashed with soldiers on the Ribereña highway at the edge of the Colonia Rancho Grande.

Authorities reported that one gunmen was killed during the clash.

Soldiers reported seizing six assault rifles, a handgun, four grenades, ammunition, marijuana, radios and four vehicles.
