A San Benito woman is behind bars after she allegedly tried to use a fake auto insurance card to get her car out of impound.
Harlingen police arrested 39-year-old Griselda Gomez Ybarra on a tampering with a government record charge on Monday.
Investigators told Action 4 News that the incident happened back on December 29th.
Ybarra was trying to get back a 2008 Dodge Charger impounded for no auto insurance.
The San Benito woman gave a copy of an insurance card but officials learned on January 5th that the card was fake.
Authorities issued a warrant for Ybarra’s arrest.
The San Benito woman appeared before a Harlingen municipal court judge on Tuesday morning where she was issued a $500 dollar bond.
Under Texas state law, tampering with a government record is a Class B misdemeanor punishable up to six months in jail and a $2,000 dollar fine.
Harlingen police arrested a woman for a similar crime back in December.
