A Harlingen man is behind bars after he allegedly had a sexual encounter with an underage girl.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 20-year-old Vicente Abundez on a sexual assault of a child charge on Monday.

Court records show that Abundez is accused in a July 2011 sexual encounter with a 16-year-old girl.

The records show that the girl's mother discovered what happened through a text message on her daughter's phone.

Abundez, his older brother and a step brother would party with the girl and at least two others back in the summer of 2011.

All three men allegedly had sexual encounters with the girls.

Abundez is charged with one specific incident that took place off Ratliff Street in San Benito back in July 2011.

The incident allegedly took place one day after the girl had a sexual encounter with Abundez's older brother.

Abundez appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Luis Saenz on Tuesday morning where he was issued a $50,000 dollar bond.

Court records show that Abundez had outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court for past resisting arrest and assault cases.

Public records show that Abundez's last known address was off West Hurst Avenue in north Harlingen.
