A San Benito man is behind bars after he allegedly tried to rob a convenience store in Harlingen.

Harlingen police arrested 24-year-old Arnulfo Zamarano, Jr. on a robbery charge around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that it all happened at the Stripes off Ed Carey and Hale Avenue.

Zamarano stormed in with a black T-shirt covering his face and demanding cash.

The store clerk refused but Zamarano appeared to reach for a weapon but never did.

Zamarano made repeated demands for money but the clerk refused prompting him to flee the scene.

An alert was put out for his car allowing San Benito police to stop him and hold him for Harlingen police.

Zamarano appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Wednesday morning where he was issued a $25,000 dollar bond.
