At least one person is dead and six are wounded following an attack on a police station south of the border.

It all happened at the Tamaulipas State Police building in Ciudad Madero around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The coastal town is located next to Tampico about 300 miles south of Brownsville.

In statement released late Wednesday, the Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office (PGJE) confirmed that armed gunmen poured out of a grey Volkswagen Bora and opened fire.

A civilian janitor identified as 37-year-old Claudia Veronica Segovia-Ramirez was killed in the attack.

Three police agents and three civilians were wounded.

The gunmen fled the scene.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified.

PGJE officials condemned the attack and vowed to find those responsible.
