A convicted sex offender is behind bars after he allegedly tried to kidnap his ex-girlfriend while she was jogging in Harlingen.

Harlingen police arrested 38-year-old Eduardo Ozuna, Jr. on an attempted kidnapping charge on Monday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Ozuna’s ex-girlfriend was jogging along Loop 499 and North 7th Street around noon Friday.

The Weslaco man allegedly drove up in his white Ford pickup truck, grabbed her and tried to force her inside.

The woman escaped and ran to Lee Means Elementary School for help while Ozuna fled the scene.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety website, Ozuna is a convicted sex offender serving 10 years probation.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Ozuna was convicted for sexually abusing his ex-girlfriend’s 14-year-old daughter.

Harlingen police arrested Ozuna when he reported to his probation officer in San Benito on Monday.

Ozuna appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Tuesday where he was issued a $57,000 dollar bond.
