Mexican authorities are investigating the death of a Rio Grande Valley man after his body was found south of the border in Reynosa.

The discovery was made on the Ribereña Highway in western Reynosa around 8 a.m. Friday.

The Hoy Tamaulipas newspaper reported that body of 40-year-old Reynaldo Hernandez Zapata was found along the busy roadway.

Authorities thought he had been run over but Hoy Tamaulipas reported that preliminary forensics revealed that Zapata had been beaten to death.

Tamaulipas State Police told Hoy Tamaulipas that Zapata had been born in Diaz Ordaz, Tamaulipas but lived in the Valley.

The newspaper reported that Zapata had a tattoo with the word “Cocuy” on his back.

No arrests have been reported for Zapata’s death.
