Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called out to Harwell Middle School on Friday morning after someone reported hearing gunshots.

No injuries were reported.

School officials told Action 4 News the school was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure---they add that no students were outside at the time the shots were heard.

Edinburg CISD spokesman Gilbert Tagle said there will be a message placed on their website on the parent link page.

He also said the school will be sending out letters to every parent to let them know what happened.

The lockdown has been lifted as of 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The shooting comes weeks after gunfire from hunters left two Harwell Middle School students injured.
