Hundreds filled pews and lined the walls at Holy Family Church in Brownsville.
A funeral mass was meant to celebrate a life many said was cut too short.
Police shot 15-year-old Jaime Gonzalez after he brought a pellet gun to school.
Police said he pointed the gun at them and refused to put his gun down.
Gonzalez died at the hospital from two gun shot wounds.
Gonzalez’s mom lives in Mexico.
She told Action 4 News she last saw Gonzalez New Year's Eve.
She never imagined the next time would be in a coffin.
Irma Cuellar, Gonzalez’s mom, told Action 4 News in Spanish she wants justice for her son.
She said police should not have killed him.
Gonzalez’s friends share her opinion.
"He was a good kid,” said friend Natasha Rodriguez. “I don't know why they did that."
"It wasn't fair, because he didn't deserve to die,” said friend Carolina Cantu. “We want a lot of justice for him."
Police maintain they did what was necessary to protect others at Cummings Middle School.
Family said police actions left them destroyed.
Another mass for Gonzalez will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Brownsville.
Burial will follow at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery.
