A 17 year old Harlingen teen is arrested on drug charges.
According to Harlingen police, the department’s Gang Eradication Team spotted a gold Mercury Marquis on the 200 block of North “T” Street.
Officers pulled the driver over for failing to signal lane change.
Police walked up to the car and started speaking to the driver and a passengers in the car, who was identified ast Urbano Rodriguez Cortez.
According to police, Cortez appeared nervous and evasive.
Police asked him if he had any contraband in his possession. Investigators say at first Cortez said no, but then later removed a plastic salt shaker containing five pills from his pocket.
The pills were identified as Alprazolam. Police say the street name for this drug is “Zan bars.”
Alprazolam is anti-anxiety medication, which experts say is common among recreational users of drugs.
Cortez was charged with possession of a controlled substance and was given a $1,000.00 bond.
